Every week we asked our official fan club to help us decide on how the dolls should look, from theme and pattern to accessories and colors.
-
The fans decided on an animal theme, opting to take inspiration from the Easter bunnies and lambs. Easter is a time for rebirth, so it's only natural these cute baby animals are the first to come to mind when designing for Spring. Our design team was immediately thrilled with this choice, and couldn’t wait to start workshopping something fluffy and adorable. The design team chose to marry fuzzy textiles with sugary sweet color palettes of orange, purple, pink, and blue. These colors are incorporated into adorable and whimsical details like cute little gingham bows, puff sleeves, and ruffles.
-
The fan club also elected a deep tan skin tone for one of the dolls and piercing green eyes for the other. The last choice made by our official Ruby Red Fashion Friends Fan Club was the names for the Easter dolls! After much deliberation and some great suggestions (Mariposa in reference to the arrival of butterflies in the Spring? Gwendolyn - meaning blessed and fair! Or Una, a name derived from the Irish word ‘uan’ meaning ‘lamb’) the consensus fell on two names inspired by the flora and fauna of Easter - Willow and Tulip.
-
Willow is named for the beautiful Willow tree with long swooping branches and a magical aura. Tulip’s namesake is the glowing Tulip flower - a flower once so prized its bulbs fetched many times more than its weight in gold at the market. Thank you again to everyone who logged on every week to join us on this project. After the success of the Easter and Christmas doll design process and the Fan Club doll project, we plan to create many more dolls with our fan club in the future.
