Take a look around our shiny new showroom!

Hello Fashion Friends Fans!

After many many months of patiently waiting- finally, the construction of our highly anticipated brand new showroom has been completed!  As the Ruby Red Fashion Friends brand continues to grow, so do our opportunities to create beautiful spaces for our dolls to live in. The new showroom boasts ample shelf space and specialist lighting that runs along the bottom of each display case, highlighting all the exquisite details of our dolls and their fashions. The new display not only centers our beautiful dolls but also the hard-work, creativity and passion that is channeled into each and every single doll. Our products are testimony to the talents and ability of our Ruby Red Fashion Friends team who are able to translate their individual and shared visions onto their work.

The showroom is an aspect of the workspace that is reflective of our company’s values as we believe that dolls are not just collectors items and play things, but pieces of functional art that should be displayed proudly. Our showroom perfectly demonstrates the diversity of our dolls, as they all have different and unique outfits and faces. They range from historical and traditional styles to the latest fashion and trends. Their faces have soft and sweet expressions which can convey anything from a thoughtful and inward spirit to an exuberant and optimistic excitement. It really is fascinating the many different effects that can be achieved through subtle manipulations of form! Here are some of the dolls that caught our eye on this particular visit to the showroom…

A Tribute to a Special Artist

One of our favourite dolls in the show room is the limited edition Dianna doll, created to honor the memory of the late Dianna Effner. Dianna was a world renowned doll artist whose vision and attention to detail resulted in her unmistakeably expressive face sculpts. Dianna began designing and making porcelin dolls in the 1970s and many of her doll designs have gone onto to be released as vinyl dolls. We have the privilege of using Dianna’s singular face molds for many of our dolls, and are forever thankful for her contribution to the doll world.

For this doll, the design team wanted to capture Dianna in her youth and were inspired by a photo of a young Dianna provided by her family. Her blonde ringlets and white organza dress harkens back to the angelic children’s style of the 1950s. Most importantly, the Dianna doll holds her own, even littler, doll, reflecting her life’s passion and purpose. This doll serves as an example of the precious nature of dolls, they help us memorialise special moments and people in our lives. The profits from this doll’s sale were donated to the United Federation of Doll Clubs (UFDC), so that it’s existence could contribute to the doll community at large in order to continue Dianna’s incredible legacy.

Childhood Memories

Another beautiful doll displayed in the showroom is the Ten Ping doll. Standing at 8”, she is one of the smallest dolls on the shelves. This dolls is particularly unique as it is modelled after our founder, Ruby Ho. The doll bears Ruby’s Chinese name and her clothing and design is inspired her. The doll holds a serene expression that almost gives the impression of being lost in a daydream, this countenance intends to capture Ruby’s childhood focus on future ambition and her creative personality.

This doll series is inspired by Ruby’s own memories from her childhood in Shanghai, China. Ruby grew up here in the mid-twentieth century and each doll shares a story from this interesting time period and culture. Through these dolls and their accompany stories, Ruby shares traditional Chinese practices like the making of lanterns and eating of moon-cakes at mid-autumn festival and universal experiences of childhood like convincing her littler brother to go to school. These items show us that dolls aren’t only beautiful things to look at but also exist as a tactile record of history and offer an opportunity to share cultural understandings and legacies. We hope that people feel inspired by the Ten Ping line to share their own childhood stories and cultural heritage.

Feeling Festive!

Lastly, we want to share some thoughts about our new limited edition Christmas Dolls, Jennifer and Scarlett. These beautiful holiday dolls perfectly capture the aesthetics of an idyllic Christmas. They are inspired by all the things we love about the winter season; snuggling up in warm and fuzzy things and decorating the house with shiny stuff that sparkles under fairy lights. These dolls have a somewhat vintage styling that is modernised by fresh accessories and details. For example, Jennifer’s hair has a very fashionable style and yet, is still complimented by the classic white bows on the head band and Scarlett has a vintage-looking fur cape that is updated by its short length.

These dolls are also extra special because they come with pierced ears and their own set of gorgeous earrings, these are our first limited edition dolls with this feature! Another great feature of these special edition doll are the removable wigs they arrive with. This means the dolls have more versatility and can be dressed up for any holiday, not just Christmas! We want to take this early opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful holiday period, whatever you choose to celebrate!

Thank you for taking the time to read about our new showroom. We are sure that you must feel the same affection for all our many different dolls that we do.  How do you display your dolls at home? Perhaps this blog post might inspire you to think of creative new ways to place your dolls in your home. You could even have a showroom of your own. It doesn’t take much! Just some shelf space and inventive lighting, we would love to see how you choose to display your dolls! If you have some pictures of your own personal doll display please send them to the email address [email protected] and they might be featured in the next blog post. Until then, have a happy Halloween and spectacular autumn!

Yours Sincerely,

The Ruby Red Fashion Friends Team,
