After the success of our Freya Flower Fairy doll, we have once again collaborated with Jana Blažková of Wixana’s Doll’s House. Jana is an outstanding artist from the Czech Republic who has made many beautiful dolls.
This time, we have collaborated with Jana to bring you four brand new dolls, each to be released every quarter of 2022. The first doll in the series is Josephine, our romantic Princess!
The collaboration began last year, in august of 2021. After seeing Jana’s incredible artwork and Freya Flower Fairy, our fans were clamouring for more outfits designed by her. At the same time, our Chief Designer Ruby Ho was working on a totally unique head sculpt, that she thought would be perfect for Jana to paint. Therefore, the decision was made to bring these elements together to create four special dolls.

In 2021 the Ruby Red Fashion Friends brand continued to grow and evolve. This was the year a completely new core line was introduced: the Siblies. The design team wanted to create a companion doll for the original Fashion Friends. The Siblies are the younger siblings of the Fashion Friends and are a little more compact and portable, standing at 12” rather than 14.5”. These new dolls offer a more playful and childlike perspective on the original Fashion Friend doll.

Following the release, and ensuing popularity, of the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls in 2019, the team started work on the next three core line dolls that would be released in 2020. When expanding the range, the design team wanted to curate a diverse selection of dolls, and therefore created dolls with different features, backgrounds, and styles.

In 2019, the Ruby Red team released their first 14.5 inch dolls influenced by contemporary fashion and committed to quality and excellence. With this, the Ruby Red Fashion Friends were born! The team wanted the dolls to carry inspirational messages of positivity and light, and therefore they were all given their own unique phrase that informed their design and personality. Moreover, the team wanted these dolls to be relatable to a modern audience and share in the aspirations held by many young people and adults alike. Therefore, each doll in the main collection has a back story that shares something about their diverse ambitions and drives.

Ruby Red Fashion Friends have just launched our first doll design competition. We want our fans to flex their creative muscle and send us their dream doll designs. To enter, all you need to do is post your one-of-a-kind doll sketch on instagram using the hashtag #rrgfulfullyourdreams. The lucky winner of our design competition will not only receive their design fully realised in doll form, but the doll will also be released as a limited edition doll in 2022!

One of our core goals in RRFF and RubyRedGalleria is to actually engage with of our collectors and even ask them to collaborate on upcoming projects. This way, we can create something new and exciting together. For years, we have been well aware that many doll collectors are excellent designers and seamsters/seamstresses themselves, and sometimes we look at the dolls that others make and a thought pops up:
Wow, that is an excellent design. That artist is amazing, I wish I could talk to them and get to know them. You know what would be awesome? Collaborating with this artist and making a new doll together! Imagine working together to make something beautiful, wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Our latest release is a doll inspired by one of our young fans! I received a very creative drawing from a five year old doll enthusiast, who asked me to turn that drawing into her very own doll. I loved her artwork and admired her ability to express herself visually at such a young age. After asking her some more questions about what she wanted the doll to look like, my team and I set about turning this little girl’s dream doll into a reality.
